End of the first week of school

1) ms alonso gave us a handout with vocabulary words to search (Australian Birds)
2) gave us a handout titled "NOUNS"
3) We had a fire drill
4) she gave us a handout stating what you should have done by now, and with a final due date: 5) she informed us about the Baseline Assessment that will be given next week on Wednesday and Thursday. Also about the vocabulary and first class assessment(on Wednesday and Thursday, might change the dates because the Baseline Assessment must be given on those spcific dates).
Fourth day of school
1. Ice breaker: read aloud to you the story of the Vancouver 2010 mascots, we talked about the legends of the Canadian and Alaskan tribes (The Haida and Clingets)
2. We talked about family history and how they were written on Totem Poles. We talked about the project that we will be doing with our own family totems.
3. We continued working with the group journals and The Metamorphosis
4. Junior and Senior orientations were today
5.We will be receiving your classroom packets tomorrow with the pacing guide and also with the policies and procedures and future projects.
6. We will start with our grammar lessons on Monday (they go hand in hand with the journal)
Third Day of School
1-started your group journal about "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka
2-picked which section you are responsible for
3-received two handouts, one with vocabulary words to memorize, and one with the explanation of the "Novella" genre.
4. 9th and 10th grade orientations were today in the Gym.
5.We were reminded about finishing your blog
6.We were told about the first assessment next week
first and second day of school!!!

1-gave first period (ESOL IV) the lunch applications, emergency contact cards, insurance info., schedules, and counselor forms.

2-informed all periods: 1,2,3,5, and 6 about classroom and school policies. We went over uniforms, tardiness, and classroom procedures including bell schedule.

3- We introduced each other and I discussed with all of you the new "EDGE" program and the different books we will be working with starting in September.

4-We went over the supplies you will need for my class: pen (black or blue only), pencil, paper, and a 3 ring binder for my class only

5-We went over the group activities we will be doing: the story journals, and the projects including the TV talk show and the audio or video recording.


Things accomplished during the second day of school:

1) Created your blogs (or are in the process of)

2) Did an "ice breaker" activity; you drew a pig

3) We read the introduction to Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" (I read aloud the summary and the first section, you listened to me) We had a discussion about it and then I explained how your journal will work, each of you will pick a section to read.

4) We went over the website sparknotes.com where you will go and read.

5) We talked about the author
